Conflict In "I EVEN FUNNIER: A MIDDLE SCHOOL STORY"

   

Internal Conflict

     I am currently reading  I EVEN FUNNIER: A MIDDLE SCHOOL STORY.  In the story the main character is Jaime Grimm.  He is in a wheelchair because of a car accident.  He thinks that he will never use his legs ever again.  That means that he is going through Internal Conflict because he has a that thought in his mind.  For example on scene in the book is that his Uncle named Frankie told him that when he is 16 that he will give him his Mustang and he asks how is he going to drive it if he can't use his legs. His uncle tells him that his friend is a mechanic and he can install something on the stirring wheel.

Man Vs Self

     Jaime's friend Joey is going through a tough time as well.  First of all his mother has cancer and second of all he is stealing stuff from kids' lockers because his mother is in the hospital and he doesn't have money for anything.  Joey starts to feel guilty for everything. He starts blaming himself for what happened to his mother even though it wasn't his fault. The vice principal finds out that he has been stealing and they are going to get him expelled.  But luckily Jaime's uncle knows the vice principal and the secretary and so he works something out. So instead of getting expelled he is going to have detention for a month and still go to school.  

What is point of view and how does it effect a story?

      Point of view is the perspective of someone else.  There are 3 types of POV. 1st person POV, 2nd person POV and 3rd person POV.  In 1st person POV the narrator is in the story and refers to himself/herself as 'I', 'We', 'My', and 'Me'.  2nd person POV isn't really that common. It is usually in cook books or some type of instructions. It usually uses the word 'You'.  In 3rd person the narrator is NOT part of the story and simply talks about the characters. The narrator usually uses the words 'them', 'her', 'It', and 'him'.

How does POV effect a story?

  Point of view effects a story because you can see it differently. You see it through the eyes of someone else. I really like 1st person POV stories because I feel like I can picture the story better. Like if I am in the story. Every story uses a different POV. Point of view makes the story more interesting. What type of POV do you like best for a story?

What is direct and indirect characterization?

What is direct and indirect characterization? 

           Direct characterization is when the author DIRECTLY tells you what is happening. Indirect characterization is when the author has DETAILS to describe the character. An example of direct characterization is 'The boy was bored in class.'  An example of indirect characterization is 'The boy wished he didn't have school and just go home and sleep.' 

Short Story

          One day a boy named Luke had his nose was runny and he had a fever. "Mom can I stay home from school?" He asked. "Well you do look sick so okay." His mom replied. He was so sleepy so he got back in bed and fell asleep.  His mom made him some chicken soup to make him feel better.  Once he woke up his stomach started to growl. He headed to the kitchen and ate the soup his mom made for him. The next day he felt better and went back to 

school.

     What Are the Four types of conflict?

The four types of conflict are Man vs. Man, Man vs Self, Man vs. Society and Man vs Nature.  One type of conflict we often see is Man vs. Man because a lot of the time we see someone fighting with someone.  The plot diagram and the 4 types of conflict are 2 DIFFERENT THINGS.  Plot diagram is telling the events in which happened.  The 4 types of conflict are things that you can identify in the story.

The 4 types of conflict and main 2 conflicts do you see mostly in your independent reading book?

The four types of conflict are Man vs. Man, Man vs Self, Man vs. Society and Man vs Nature.  The 2 types that I often see in my independent reading book are Man vs Self and Man vs Man.  The book I am currently reading is Girl Stolen  she has to fight for herself because she is blind that is the Man vs Self. The Man vs Man part is when she gets kidnapped. All stories have conflict because it just makes the story more interesting.

 
 

How is cause and effect related to the plot diagram?

           

What Is a Plot Diagram?

         A plot diagram is a diagram that shows readers the purpose of the events.  Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, and Resolution is what makes up a diagram.  Do you know what those words mean? If not then let me tell you.  Exposition or also known as Introduction means the beginning of a short  story when the characters and the setting are introduced to readers. Rising Action means that all the events that lead to the climax. It also presents some type of conflict. Climax mean the turning point of the story. Sometimes the character is face to face with a conflict. Resolution is simply the ending. What that means is that it ends with a reasonable ending. Now you know what a plot diagram is!!

How Are They Alike?

How is cause and effect related to the plot diagram? It is related because in the plot diagram the rising action is usually the cause of the climax. Then the climax is the effect and the resolution is the cause. Cause and effect can help you understand the plot diagram more. Does it make sense? If not then go ahead and try it I'm sure then you'll understand.

     Hi!  My name is Andrea. I am 11 years old.  I was born in St. Anthony Hospital in Chicago on February 14.  My family is from Mexico so that makes me Mexican but I am the only one in my family that is an American citizen. Even though I am a citizen I have never been out of the country. I've only been to California, Michigan and Wisconsin. I love music and art. I am always doodling in notebooks if I get bored.  I love to sing and play the guitar.  I want to be a professional Musician (singer).  But I will always be drawing. They say I am really good but I don't know.  My favorite band is One Direction. I saw them on August 29, 2014 at Soldier Field.  It was the best day ever!  Besides Chicago my favorite place in the United States is Los Angeles.  First of all I have a house there and second of all I love Hollywood. I go every summer. I have the best time.

   
     My favorite type of books are mystery, humor and a little bit of romance like "The Fault In Our Stars" kind of book.  My favorite magazine is J-14. I get every issue of the month so you can imagine how many magazines I have.  I really like the author James Patterson.  His books are probably the only ones I read over. I like others but it's just that his are really funny. I am currently reading "Middle School The Worst Years Of my Life".  I just started reading it on September 5 2014 and I am already on Chapter 30.  So far it's about a kid name Rafe Khatchadorian and he wants to make a reputation in middle school. So to do that he wants to break every rule at school and he gets points for it. It is really funny. If you haven't already read it.
